When the Eagles offense takes the field Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, one of the league’s top defensive units, they will do so without one of their key offensive weapons back in action.
Wide receiver DeVonta Smith has not been cleared to play and will be inactive, which will impact how the Eagles will attack the Ravens secondary. Smith missed last Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams because of a hamstring injury. Smith did not participate in Wednesday’s walkthrough but was limited in the next two days. When Smith was asked after Friday’s practice if he would play, he seemed unsure if he would be on the field.

“I don’t know yet,” Smith said. “It’s still not my decision.”
Nearly 20 minutes before the inactive were announced, Smith jogged on the field with yellow cleats, taking a lap around the stadium beginning to stretch before doing receiving drills with wide receiver A.J. Brown. However, the Eagles will keep him on the sideline and preserve him for another week.
Smith’s absence means Brown could see another influx in targets against the Ravens’ 31st-ranked pass defense (277.7 yards per game). Smith and Brown can open up a lot of things on the outside, especially if the Ravens place a lot of focus on stopping running back Saquon Barkley.
The Eagles could also use more two-tight end sets, which tight end Dallas Goedert could benefit from greatly. The Ravens have allowed the most receptions to tight ends in the league (72) and the second-most receiving yards (790) and if the Ravens put their safeties over toward Brown or in the box, Goedert will benefit from it.
Cornerback Darius Slay was ruled out Friday because of a concussion, and wide receiver Johnny Wilson was ruled out Saturday because of a hamstring injury, leading cornerback Isaiah Rodgers to start in place of Slay and wide receiver Parris Campbell to be added to the active roster.
